Goat For Sale
Goats are members of the bovine family and are closely related to sheep and antelope. There are more than 300 species of goats in the world, ranging from the African pygmy goat which stands about 20 inches tall, to the Boer goat which can weigh as much as 325 pounds. Types of Goats
Species of goats can be found in many regions of the world, from hot climates to cold ones. Goat keepers don’t need to invest in large, fancy barns to keep their goats. Goat do just fine as long as they have some form of shelter from the elements, such as a small barn or shed. They like to graze so they should have access to a large pasture, or rotating pastures, so that they always have access to fresh greens.
Besides everything, what do goats eat?
As ruminants, goats have four-chambered stomachs that allow them the digest a wide variety of plant material, from leaves and grasses to vines and branches. They are most commonly fed alfalfa hay and grains, and allowed to free range in a pasture. Goat have earned a reputation for eating everything including tin cans. In actuality, they are rather picky eaters, selecting the best pieces of hay or leaf tips to eat. But they are curious browsers, meaning they will nibble on unfamiliar things, using their prehensile upper lip and tongue to get a taste, to see if it is something they would like.
Entertainment for a Goat
Goats are agile and love to climb. They like to be high off the ground and perched on precarious ledges. They are the only ruminant to climb trees. They are master escape artists and notorious for breaking out of their stall, pen, or pasture. They are intelligent and good problem-solvers. Goats will learn escape tricks from other goats and will also apply a method of escape that has worked in the past to a new situation. Wooden ramps and platforms, pile of large boulders, or big boxes will all give the goats opportunity to play their favorite game, King of the Mountain.
Goat Breeding
Depending on the breed, goats can reach puberty between three and fifteen months but it is recommended by most breeders to wait until the doe has reached about 70% of her adult weight before breeding her. The gestation period is approximately 150 days and goats will typically give birth to twins. It is less common to have a single birth or triplets. A male goat is called a buck, and a castrated male goat is a wether. A female is called a doe, and baby goats are called kids
