I saw Pretsch’s Prairieland critters at a Janesville Reptile Expo. I was not terribly impressed. They had lots of hamsters and Guinea pigs which were kept in pine bedding which is horrible for them. A couple of Guinea pigs had irritated watery eyes from it. I asked if they were selling the mother hamster and they said no. I am assuming they breed large numbers of hamsters. Hopefully they are not inbred. I have had several hamsters with issues most likely due to that. I am not sure if the male and female hamsters were separated or not but the Syrians were getting big if not. There are plenty of hamsters and Guinea pigs stuck in shelters at the moment. I also hope the animals are kept in much larger enclosures with more bedding at their private facility. I just rescued a rabbit that was one of four released I Milwaukee. I hope they truly educate people on how hard rabbit care can be. I’m just concerned at the amount of animals they had and how many different types they had if they are truly well taken care of especially with the use of pine bedding which causes respiratory and skin issues.
